SUM-271 in Macedonia, Ohio

The SUM-271-12.47 Project was a $44.5M improvement project consisting of various work operations through multiple phases and construction seasons. This project consisted of full depth replacement of the mainline IR-271 pavement and ramps, including the addition of a third lane in each direction on IR-271. The project replaced the existing 3-span continuous steel beam structures over SR-82 with simple span pre-stressed I-beam structures. The project also replaced the existing three-span continuous steel girder structures over Ledge Road, South Freeway Drive, North Freeway Drive, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad with three-span continuous welded steel plate girder structures. The project incorporated associated MOT/Utilities, new low/high mast lighting, median cable barrier, two signalized intersections, four new noise barriers, the addition of a sixth lane on SR-82, full depth pavement replacement and widening of South Freeway Drive, new drainage, and the relocation of the on-ramp from SR-82 to IR-271 NB to South Freeway Drive.
